Watertight
A few weeks ago, we reached a HUGE milestone. Our final windows and doors were installed, and just like that, space that still had ‘building site’ vibes, transformed into a watertight house. Hey, house!
Hats off to the architect!
These final pieces were tricky and there was no room for error, but the final result is a wonderful manifestation of Lanre’s creative vision, his incredible attention to detail, and the simple, but often overlooked art of double, triple and quadruple checking. His effort has paid off, and what he’s created for us is the perfect solution for a house that has limited garden space.
What might just be my favourite thing about this space, is the sexy skylight and walk on glass combo. Nestled above the short flight of stairs that go down to the kitchen is a skylight giving you a delicious slice of London sky. Below this skylight is a wedge of walk-on glass giving you a cheeky peek of the basement below, bringing much-needed light into the lowest, darkest part of the house. When you stand in the corner of the basement and look up, you have direct access to the sky. It’s fabulously unexpected and I’m glad we wrangled our budget and compromised to make that work.
There are still many things that need to be done, ranging from the large (plumbing) to the minuscule (cleaning our light fixtures), but I can’t stop thinking about the fact that we’re now weeks and not months away from spending our first night in our new house. We’re almost there.
